Your Party co-founder Jeremy Corbyn MP spoke in Hastings, with Maya Evans, his Community Organiser in Islington North, hosting a very well attended Your Party public meeting at Horntye Sports Complex.
Andrea Cowhig, of Hastings Area Southern Housing Tenants Action (HASHTA) also spoke, as did Jess Austin, Conquest Hospital nurse, RCN member and environmental campaigner. Many people from Hastings who turned out to see what Your Party is all about also spoke from the floor in a Q & A towards the end.
Andrea explained how Southern Housing Association had agreed to co-operate over the issues of severe damp and mould with the Tenants association she helped form to represent the residents, and then later sent an email saying they refused to recognise the tenants association.
Jess Austin spoke of how the elite are laughing at the division they have created in our communities, and why we desperately need a government with the balls to stand up for social justice and for climate justice.
Jeremy Corbyn gave an uplifting speech in which he took the government to task on everything from the lack of affordable housing, due to greedy developers breaking their promises, to the state of the health service, where he said we should take the spare capacity in private health care and use it for the NHS.
The event was supported by Hastings People’s Party, Hastings Independent Group of councillors, Stand Up To Racism and SWP.
Corbyn : Take the unused facilities in private health care and use them for the NHS.
Join Hastings Peoples Party to become a part of the national grassroots movement, currently called ‘Your Party’ to help shape the direction the new party will take and to support local campaigns here in the Hastings area around housing, disability, benefits and to support Hastings’ great culture of activism!
